- The Contact's Documents tab will have a 'Generate 1098s' button if the contact (borrower) has paid interest for a given tax year.
2023 1098 forms are now available, please scroll down to the following blue banner to learn how to generate a 1098 form.
- Alternatively, if you have the Investments module, you will also see a 'Generate 1099' button for contacts if they're an investor/lender on a loan. 

The Documents section of the Contact record can be accessed by clicking on 'Documents' on the left-hand side list of the 'Contact Details' page.  

This table contains all of the notices, files, or 1098 Tax forms that have been generated or added to the contact record.  

Add File
To add a file, click on the 'Add File' button:

A window will open on top of this page.  You can either select the files from your computer that you want to upload, or you can drag the files you want to upload into this window:

When your files appear in the window, you can click 'Done' to upload the files:

The files you upload will appear in the 'Documents' table:

To view/download the file, click 'Pdf'.  To delete the file from the system, click 'Del':

*Depending on your version of Bryt, there may be some limitations on the number and size of files that can be stored in the system.

Generating a Document
You can generate a document using the 'Generate Document' button in the contact's Documents area.
Please refer to the Custom Documents add-on module guide if you haven't worked with document templates.

There is a send button that will allow you to resend a system-generated notice or custom document that has already been generated to the contact's email.

Click OK to send the notice via email. Or Cancel to close the send pop-up dialog box.

Click the 'Send' button once you've fulfilled the requirement(s) of the dialog box and entered all information and attachments you'd like to include. 

1098 'Generate 1098s' Button and the 'Generate 1099' button 
The process to generate 1098 and 1099 forms via the Contacts --> Documents tab is the same.
There will be a 'Generate 1098s' button shown if the borrower has paid interest during a given tax year (otherwise it won't show).
Alternatively, for Investments module users, you'll see the Generate 1099 button if the contact is an investor/lender on a loan. 

Requirements:
- Contacts must have a tax ID (SSN, EIN, or ITIN), an address, a City/State/Zip, and you as the lender must have an address assigned under your company details to generate a 1098 form.
- Must have paid interest AND be the primary borrower within a given tax year. (Ex: To generate a 2023 1098 form for a borrower, they must have made an interest payment with a paid-on date within the 2022 tax year. )

With requirements out of the way, this Generate 1098s button under a contact's documents tab will generate 1098 forms for ALL loans that meet the requirements noted above. 

After clicking the 'Generate 1098s' (or 'Generate 1099') button, you'll be asked to select the tax year you're looking to generate the form for:

Upon clicking 'Generate' you'll see the 1098 (or 1099 form) forms generated in the list of documents. Multiple forms may be generated depending on the number of loans they are associated with.

Once generated, you'll be able to download the PDF file of the 1098 form by clicking the 'Pdf' button or email the 1098 form (or 1099 form) by clicking the 'Send' button. 

Pdf Button:

The Pdf button will download a copy of the 1098 form for you to review and either print or send to the borrower via an email attachment. 

Send Button:

Click 'Send' once ready to send the 1098 (or 1099) form via email to the borrower.
